Remember that the safety of a food product is not solely dependent on its expiration date. Food products that are improperly stored or handled can also pose a health risk. Make sure you check for signs of spoilage before consuming anything!

Cow belches are killing the planet and I swear I thought they were pulling my leg with this but it’s true. By choosing to decrease the need to take vehicles everywhere and instead taking a hot girl walk to the grocery store or on any short trips, we can directly influence the reduction of air pollution resulting in better air quality.
Four: Use eco-friendly sunscreen when going into the water
Chemicals like Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, amongst the many other chemicals that do harm to our reefs absorb UV light and are commonly found in sunscreens. Good for us because it turns the rays into harmless heat on our skin but bad for the reefs because once these chemicals come into contact with water, even a low concentration can bleach corals, cause deformities, hurt them and other marine life.
Luckily though, more brands are coming up with ocean and reef-safe sunscreens that protect both our skin and the environment. Keep in mind that choosing eco friendly packaging (like our deos) help too!
Social action is contagious! If many of us start implementing these tiny habits into our daily routines and having constructive conversations, others are most likely to be influenced to do the same. In return, these changes will demand a shift in the industry to push towards a better future. There are many things we can’t control. But what we can control, we can start right now.

This year, the theme for Earth Day is Invest In Our Planet.
With every year that passes, the urgency to preserve and protect our livelihoods, families and health increases. We need to courageously make change happen.
A green future is a prosperous future. Acting boldly and innovating broadly to implement actions equitably takes all of us; businesses, governments and citizens must be accountable and be counted in. We need to work with our planet while there is still time to solve the climate crisis. While there is still time to choose to build a healthy earth, restore nature and have a sustainable and prosperous life, time is short.
What we can do falls under these 3 categories:
Investing in our planet to build a prosperous and equitable future.
Climate change is about to even more deeply damage economies, increase scarcity, drain profits and job prospects. This directly impacts us all unless businesses act now.
Businesses can rapidly accelerate to the green changes we want and need, and studies show a direct correlation between sustainable business practices, share prices, and business performance. Developing a strong Environment Social Governance (ESG) standards have better profitability, stronger financials, happier employees, and more resilient stock performance.
Intelligent businesses are realising that it is no longer a choice between going green and growing long-term profits — sustainability is the path to prosperity. For both humanitarian and business reasons, it is crucial that businesses of all sizes take action and embrace the benefits of a green economy. Speak up and talk business leaders into getting on board with a sustainable future!
Through regulations, incentives, and public/private partnerships, governments hold the key to transforming and building the green economy. Similar to the industrial and information revolutions, governments must incentivize their citizens, businesses, and institutions to build a resilient future. Ultimately, governments will empower green business practices as not only the ethical option but also the lucrative one.
For example, clean energy jobs can provide earnings +25% above the median wage, and outpace fossil fuel related jobs, employing more people than teachers, bankers, lawyers, or real estate agents. Globally, the fossil fuel industry benefits from subsidies of $11 million every single minute and over $5.9 trillion annually (and rising).
We can build a renewable economy through shifting to policies and partnerships. Speak up and show how important it is to you that your government leaders launch the sustainability revolution!
As individuals, we have the simple yet effective power to make our voices heard through our choices, our civic actions, and our personal interactions. What each of us does, and how we do it, has a huge ripple effect on our ecosystems, and on the pace of corporate and government action.
Gen Z is providing inspiration, a large population of them having stopped purchasing brands that have ethical or sustainability concerns. We have the power to lobby for and support businesses that take active steps to protect our environment through their practices and climate-friendly investments and fight against those that don’t.
At a cleanup, with your vote, or your wallet, be heard however you are able. For all of us – today and for our future – let’s Invest In Our Planet!

]]>Everyone loves essential oils as they are a safer form of fragrance and are more natural than chemical fragrances that easily irritate.
However, did you know that some essential oils are harmful if used improperly? Severe allergy reactions, throat tightening and difficulty breathing are some symptoms you may experience if you directly consume certain essential oils that may be toxic!
Misusing these oils through over applying, over smelling and consuming essential oils can cause a mirage of issues, so it is important to be well informed on the proper usage of essential oils.
Firstly, understand that the benefits of aromatherapy are evident through the countless studies conducted. Inhaling certain essential oils like lavender may improve the quality of your sleep. Inhaling sweet orange essential oil can help ease symptoms of stress and anxiety. Using inhalation or diffusion can help treat respiratory issues and help you manage your mood!
Secondly, some essential oils, like tea tree, are perfectly safe when used on the skin but very harmful when consumed. People use topical oils for healing their skin or for pain relief. However, if administered improperly, rashes and other side effects may occur.
Most essential oils need to be diluted into a safe concentration to prevent adverse reactions. As a general rule of thumb, you should keep concentration levels of essential oils below 5%. You can dilute it with carrier oils which help to spread these essential oils over a larger surface area. Carrier oils are your typical vegetable-based oils like olive oil. To be safe, you can also carry out a skin patch test!
Some essential oils like Tea Tree (unoxidised), lavender and rose can be used with or without dilution, while others like lemongrass and citronella must be diluted.
Our scented deodorants, hand balms and lip balms all have high graded certified organic essential oils. They are, however, witin The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) safe standards! This is so that it is extra safe for use and compliant with the European Union Cosmetics Compliance, which factors in these risks, and considers the types of safe essential oils!

]]>Well, this is no longer about being selfish to the next generation, because, with the acceleration that global warming is taking, climate change will very quickly affect all our lives.
What is Climate Change
Climate change is the natural process where water cycles, winds, temperature and more elements rise and fall. Over the years, our planet has been exponentially warming rapidly due to human activities. By far, the burning of fossil fuels has generated the majority of greenhouse gas emissions that act like a blanket that traps the sun's heat and raises the temperature on earth.
Carbon dioxide and methane are some examples of gases that cause climate change. Their biggest sources are the burning of fossil fuels, for example: driving cars and coal for electricity. They also come from things like clearing of lands, forests and landfills. These industries; Energy, agriculture and waste disposals are some of our major emitters.
As of current, our greenhouse gas concentration is at its highest and will continue to rise rapidly. You may think; "so what? it's just warmer weather." However, the earth is an interconnected system of balance, where changes in one area can very easily cause a chain reaction in so many others. The reality is that climate change is already happening around us; unpredictable weather, animals going into extinction and increasingly damaging natural disasters are all linked to climate change.
Causes
Climate change both drives and results from hunger. By using our natural resources like water, land and energy unsustainably, the agriculture industry contributes heavily to rising temperatures, which affects the number of resources we have to produce food. There is an increase in the number of people in the world facing hunger. From 2019 to 2020, 161 million more people face hunger(811 million in 2020).
Processes to produce, package and distribute food generates a good third of the greenhouse gases, which has caused a significant 80% loss in biodiversity. This will continue increasing given the rising demand, higher income and dietary changes if there is no intervention. Food processes account for 30% of the energy the world uses, of which the majority is produced by burning fossil fuels.
17% of all food created is not consumed and becomes waste, contributing to 10% of our greenhouse gas emissions.
Impacts
As global warming continues, our planet will increasingly experience a shift in the drivers of climatic impact. Each region will face a myriad of issues. Ice sheets will collapse and polar ice will melt, causing sudden changes to ocean circulation and warming beyond control. Intense drought, water scarcity, rising sea levels and flooding. Severe wildfires, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity. Because all of us are connected to the earth's system, we too will experience climate change in a diversity of ways.
Our health, ability to grow food, safety, work and housing will all be affected. Some people are less fortunate, living in vulnerable areas of earth that attract more natural disasters both big and small. Things like rising sea levels, change in salinity and acidity have majorly impacted small island communities and have forced them to relocate. These "climate refugees" are predicted to rise in number as our climate continues its turn for the worse.
What can I do?
Climate change is a huge and challenging issue, but there are many solutions. There are three broad categories of action: cut emissions, adapt to climate impacts and finance required adjustments.
Though many of these things are out of our direct control, there are also steps we as individuals can take to help. After all, individual demands can work as a whole to bring about change. Project Drawdown estimates that, as individuals, we can drive 25-30% of the global emission reductions needed to avoid the worst of climate change. Alone, our steps may seem small, but when we come together, how we choose to live has the power to influence leaders and drive change on a global scale.
Here are 16 steps (Count Us In NGO, Project Drawdown, 2022). Pick a step at a time that works for you and your commitment level, challenge yourself to keep it up, then add steps as you go.

Increasingly hotter warm seasons are a trend and we understand the feeling of sweat rolling down your back and being terrified of smelling funky this spring and summer. We know you're reaching for that deodorant the moment you get ready to go out for the day!
Sometimes, deodorants you have been using the previous years begin to stop working as effectively. Signalling a sign of your body's microbiome changing, don't worry this is entirely normal! What you'll have to do is simply look for another deodorant that works for you. We'd encourage you to use something natural that's both safe for you and the environment.
Other times, you notice that your underarms begin to itch or rash or even darken when you put on deodorant. Maybe you haven't recognised that this could be because of the deodorant you use, but did you know that this may be a sign that you may be sensitive or allergic to ingredients in your deodorant? Conventional deodorants have harsh chemical components that are often irritant to the skin.
The most common trigger is the chemical fragrances, followed by parabens and propylene glycol in your deodorant! These triggers are the top causes of contact dermatitis, where your skin gets red, bumpy, itchy or blistering.
The best way to avoid these is to stop the use of your current deodorant and find better, safer and healthier alternatives like natural deodorants!

For example, spending time with friends, exercising or volunteering. You will soon start to realise how much time you actually spend carrying out the things on your lists and if you spend more than 80% of your day thinking negatively towards yourself, but that does not correspond to your values, it is time to make some changes. You'll feel better, and be better able to focus on what you truly care about.
It's normal to think strangers are judging us, but we really should not be assuming you know what they're thinking. The reality of the matter is that most people don't even notice the flaws you worry about, so there's no reason to worry yourself about what other people are thinking.
Surround yourself with positive people with positive talk. Squash out bad habits like complaining to people about self-hate. Seek out a positive support system that is about enjoying working on your passions together.
The more time you spend with positive people, the more satisfied with yourself you'll become.
Meditation is a great way to centre yourself, especially when you're feeling stressed and tired. You can find tons of meditation resources online that can guide you to relax and rebalance your mind! When you set aside time for managing your mental health properly, you'll benefit in many ways, both mentally and physically.
Focusing on great things, especially about yourself is important for being confident in yourself. Although tacking your physical health is important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, focusing on only numbers on a scale can blind you to what's important, which is you as a whole. The list of things should not be anything physical but more about your character as a person. Focus on great things, and write down things people have complimented you for, then place the list somewhere prominent so you can't miss it.
Instead of focusing on getting the perfect physical appearance, aim for other types of healthy goals, such as trying new kinds of fruits and vegetables, cutting some of the sugar from your daily diet, or eating breakfast every day. Keep in mind that there are many ways to be kind to your body outside of the realm of diet and exercise. Things like wearing SPF every day or scheduling your annual health screenings are little efforts that can have big payoffs for your body.
A healthy exercise routine includes cardio, strength training, and some flexibility and balance work. The recommended exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week, and going beyond that might not be necessary. It is important to have fun with your workouts by trying new things, such as taking that belly dancing class, learning a social sport like tennis, or setting fitness goals for yourself, such as training for a marathon or a cycling event.
Almost everyone feels a little negative about their body at times, and data suggest that this dissatisfaction can motivate healthy change, which can be great for your body and mind. But spending hours in front of the mirror, spending all your energy on dieting and exercise, avoiding work or social events because you don't think your body is presentable, is not okay. This is when it's time to get professional help. Body dysmorphic disorder, the extreme version of body-image dissatisfaction, is a diagnosable and treatable condition.

]]>Many countries these days need to quickly and easily clear out native areas of forests, agricultural lands and plains for repurposing its use to accommodate its rapidly expanding population. As a result, there is more pressure to exploit natural resources. Most of the time, this means using fire to cheaply and quickly clear out areas. Issues of unethical management of natural resources are also common in countries that are less strict about preserving their forest but are keener in profiting.
In addition, lots of timber can be produced illegally and smuggled, stolen or looted to avoid taxes and royalties. Issues like logging of old or protected forests and unsustainable development of land also contribute to unethical forestry. This results in negative impacts that affect both the environment and the population.
Let's take a closer look at the impacts of unethical forestry and how it impacts our biodiversity, environment and local communities.
In terms of biodiversity, unethical forestry impacts the amount of available habitat that many species of animals have and increases the chances of human-animal conflict. This often brings about hunting and poaching of animals along logging routes. In addition, animals suffer as their migration paths, sources of food and water, as well as shelter is negatively impacted.
There are also many environmental impacts that illegal and unsustainable logging may cause. One of the biggest is contributing to 15% of the greenhouse gas emissions. This of course, in turn, contributes to climate change. Another significant impact is in soil erosion and water cycles. Runoff and drying of forest soils are the results of a lack of proper trees and vegetation. This impacts the whole ecosystems ability to survive healthily.
Local communities of people relying on these forests for their source of income often lose out to big logging corporations. This is because they can't operate at the capacity and speed of these logging companies, and these companies end up reaping most of the benefits of these forests.
One way that you can tell if your paper and wood products are ethically sourced is through looking for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. The FSC promotes responsible management of the world's forests and works with companies to monitor the lifecycle of production to ensure that it won't contribute to environmental destruction or habitat loss.
The FSC certification is a strict certification that focuses on environmental and social responsibilities to enforce the long-term protection of forests while reducing the negative impacts on the environment and society.
According to the FSC, paper-based packaging with an FSC certification ensures that the wood used has been responsibly managed in an environmentally sustainable manner.
